Hi all,

My PLI complier will be updated to V3.9.

For PLI, is there anything to be updated?

Thanks.

Being a good mainframer involves... consulting the documentation for the new software, where changes and necessary/optional work will be described .

You mean, it's Enterprise PL/I for z/OS?

Hello,

Whatever the "from" and "to" releases/versions, substantial testing should be done.

Compling and running a couple of trivial bits of code may be ok for ensuring the new implementation is successfully installed on your system

Before working on anything "real", these modules should be compiled and tested in a non-production environment to reduce or prevent surprises after it is "live". Many surprises have happened because an organization was too confident or too foolish to properly test an upgrade.

The information provided for upgrade considerations should be read and re-read. Some of that info should guide in the acceptance testing.

If the migration is from PL/I to EPLI, there may be more changes (certain program constructs/declarations are not supported by EPLI, but PL/I supports); therefore more testing should be done as Dick pointed out.

In my previous organization, this PL/I to EPLI migration has/had been running for years (since there are more programs to be changed, involving more testing).

I hope IBM has given a doc on migration guidelines.

And you still haven't told us from what older version it will be upgraded!
