Five or seven years ago I exchanged emails with Frank about the benchmark comparison tests I was doing on DFSORT and S******T at a business unit of "Big Z Insurance" from which I later retired. It was easy and fun to detect Frank's pleasure and enthusiasm at hearing that his DFSORT had soundly beaten S******T in 100% of our comparison tests.
I had expected a simple curt reply from the question I posed to IBM.
Instead Frank took his time to personally answer my question and to explain the improvements that had been made that allowed DFSORT to perform so well in our tests. It was memorable experience and still appreciated. Frank really put a human face on Big Blue. Frank, thank you again. |

Hi Frank,
It is really tough to read this that you will be no longer here to help us. However, I wish you a great time after retirement. You have been very kind and helpful and provided great solutions. It is really unbelievable that we will miss you.
Good luck.
Best Regards,
Ram. |

Hi Frank,
It’s time to throw away the alarm clock, put away the fancy clothes and embrace a new way of starting your mornings. Enjoy this new chapter in your life like it’s a week long vacation that never ends. Wishing you the very best. |

As i type this post ... we just wrote a parse requirement and added one more Mainframe professional who is all praise for the SORT.
I'm a big fan of your solutions & product. You will surely be missed .
All the best for your future.
This post is one of an example of pure dedication & love for the work he had.

Best whishes, Frank !
Thanks for the help I needed from time to time. Always good responses.
Now you have the choice : either you take care of your pet rats or - as you said you don't have access to a Mainframe anymore, then you develop a FYSort on Windows. Do you dare?
Profitez bien de votre retraite à faire plein de belles choses.
Bonne chance

That's hysterical! But the real picture of me has been here all along - my avatar, Professor Rat. |

There was one with a guy standing next to an early sorter, but it was too embedded to include here.
Thanks the Bill for pointing out that I had a badly formed link. I was able to correct them before my edit limit was reached. |

I also found this, on the Type 070 vertical sorters, hysterical. Sorry about that.
If you click on the link, there's a title, a little picture and some text. Above the little picture is a "clickable" thing, which says "Click to enlarge". Go on. Give it a go. Is that what you expected? Must have hit the wrong thing. Try again. Nope, just weird. Kept me busy for ages. |

If you want some real fun, go to Google Images and type in Frank's name.
There are some real head-scratchers on that page. (if you're at work, make sure you have safe search turned on) |

Wow, that is interesting. I knew about the character from Metal Gear.
It certainly is interesting to see a tombstone that says Frank Yaeger died in 1967.
It's also interesting to see that the only image actually related to me is the one of my avatar. (Not really surprising since I don't post public photos anywhere. I guess I could post one, but I don't have a place to post it.)
If any IBMers want to see my photo, look me up in Bluepages. |

There is one of the dad from The Incredibles hunched miserably over his desk. It's the avatar of the person you were talking to on a long thread.
There is another one of a "sexy" pic from the 60's of some lady on the fantail of a yacht in a ginormous bikini (the lady, not the yacht) |
