Try making sure it's a logical 'OR' Hex '4F' in EBCDIC... |

Is there any way I can get the ASCII code for | so that I can use corresponding EBCDIC which I can as delimiter in mainframes. |

Assuming that you run Windows on your workstation, look at the Character Map accessory. |

I'm confused as to which way round you want things.
x'4F' is the Logical Or/Pipe/Vertical Bar/Vertical Line in EBCDIC.
x'7C' is the same in ASCII.
Assuming standard translation.
Again assuming standard translation, when the ftp does EBCIDIC to ASCII the character should appear correctly on the target sytem. Same with ftp from target.
Immediately after the ftp try to look at the file with an "editor". If you don't see "|" then you have to look at the "code tables". If you see "|", then something down the line is interpreting the x'7C' as another character. |

Yes, well.... you didn't actually mention what sort of system is your ftp target. Even then, I think your own colleagues would be a better source of information. It doesn't even have to be an editor. If you don't know the system, just ask someone, nicely, if they can show you the first screenful of records on the file. |

As you're reluctant to answer what Kevin has asked and then suggested and later explained by Bill -- why don't you live with the new some special char, I belive the change is universal across the file and it will still serve the purpose of delimiter, no? |
