DO NOT tag onto the end of an existing thread that bears absolutely no relation to the question that you have.
Exactly what have you researched for yourself regarding this.
What have you tried yourself.
Let us know the problems that you have encountered while trying to do your work rather than asking others to do it for you.

Again I ask, what have YOU tried for yourself so far and what results did you get. |

"IDCAMS DEFINE creates an IAM file whenever the OWNER($IAM) parameter is specified, $IAM is placed somewhere in the data set name, or $IAM is part of the Data Class or Storage Class name."
From the above statement, you should be able to figure out exactly what needs to be done for each file you need to convert from IAM to VSAM. |

When you post what you tried and what went wrong, someone will be able to help.
I believe you are making this more difficult than it needs to be.
Also as a heads up - the performance may change. . . |

the real issues are not the lowly technicalities of a simple IDCAMS DEFINE !
don' t You have a storage support group in Your organization ?
they should do the planning and advice on how to proceed |

As Dick and Enrico point out - performance may change, and there is more to it than a simple change in the DEFINEs. . .
As in:
1) A native VSAM file will probably take more (often much more) dasd space than an equivalent IAM file
2) Processing a native VSAM file will probably require more EXCP's, service units, etc. than an equivalent IAM file
3) Processing a native VSAM file will probably require more CPU time than an equivalent IAM file
4) Processing a native VSAM file will probably require more elapsed time than its equivalent IAM file
5) Since some DEFINE specs (e.g. CISIZE, FREESPC) are "ignored" by IAM (it uses its own, proprietary, storage management routines), you may find that the values specified in the DEFINE are not optimal when applied to native VSAM files
6) Converted IAM files may exceed the 4GB limit imposed for standard VSAM files - thus requiring either file or application changes, or the use of extended format / extended addressability VSAM
You really SHOULD work with your storage group! |
