Hi,

I want to create a production GDG dataset with a retention period of 45 days. Could you please let me know how do we set the retention period for 45 days.

Thanks.

You usually can't, but if it actually is possible, you might want to check with your storage team to find out how.

You could find the solution Yourself by looking at the JCL manuals

but beware before using it it would be wiser to ask Your storage support...
explicit retention/expiration date on dd statements is a practice gone for a loong time
and frowned upon by storage administrators

Again: some places, maybe many places. Maybe even in every shop but this one. But I absolutely must -- as verified by the experience of having run thousands of jobs over several years -- specify an explicit retention period or expiration date, or the data set goes into a volatile management class whose data sets are deleted at midnight.

That said, it is a very good idea to find out your shop's standards, as failing to do so and acting in ways contrary to them can be a career-limiting move.

If the ACS routines are set up by me, explicit retention / expiry are forbidden icon_razz.gif

If you want to keep for 45 days then set the limit on the GDG base to such a number as will cater for 45 days worth of datasets.
