Question: If a Job is executing is SDSF and we try to issue JES2 command $HJ'Jobname' or in SDSF beside the Jobname type H in order to HOLD it.
Will it really be HELD and stops executing ?? |

Are you saying, "If, using SDSF, I can see a job executing, can I use the $HJ'Jobname' JES2 command or put an H next to it in SDSF in order to HOLD it. Will it reeally be HELD and stop executing?"?
I guess you should look up $HJ in the JES2 manual, ask your production control, sysprogs, OPS.
What is the reason for asking? Might lead to a more specific answer from someone.
Edit: How is this a TSO/ISPF question? |

Well at our shop we HOLD the Jobs thru scheduling packages like CA7 or TWS, but when we hold those Jobs in the scheduling package it does not allow them to submit on MF.
There was a instance when the Job was supposed to be held but it was not held and it got submitted to JES, so is there any way we could have held this Job in SDSF by typing H beside the Job name ???
If the Job is in Input queue it can be held (by H) and then later released (by A - beside the Job name) but if the Job is ACTIVE (executing) then Im not sure whether it can be really HELD ??? Please clarify..this option |

Hi,
once the job has started executing you may be able to quiesce the job, holding will not stop it from executing unless the job has not started yet.
A job waiting for an initiator can be held and released at a later time.
A better option is to get your CA7 or TWS in order.

No u can't, once the job start executing you can not hold it....in SDSF.
You can't do it in Ca7 before job's get execute. |

kchidambara2, after 4 and 1/2 months I doubt there's much reason to add anything to the replies already posted. |
