We are working on a tool to send large number of huge files form Mainframe to windows server for comparison. We are looking to compress them in mainframe environment before FTPing. The decompression on the windows side can be done through C#.net or Microfocus environment. The idea is to reduce MF usage during the process.
We have identified a few ZIP applications, including PKZIP, ZIP/390, INFO-ZIP, GZIP. We also tried TERSE in mainframes but Microfocus did not support the decompression.
Wanted your opinion on which application & process would be the most acceptable & efficient. Using free or less expensive application would help the cause. |

There is a free (un)TERSE for the PC available in the files section of the hercules-390 group on Yahoo! I've been using it for years and it's fully compatible with IBM's AMATERSE/TRSMAIN. |

Thanks a lot prino for the fast reply!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will be trying it out. Please give me a day's time.. On secure systems now .. will have to register to the group n get the executables at home..
We would want to do an automated unTERSE by using C#.net. I will have to find it out once i get the EXEs... would keep you posted on this thread. |
