I am trying to determine the actual size or reasonably close of a dsn in tracks and/or cylinders with information from DCOLLECT. Looking at the DCDALLSP & DCDUSESP, is there some calculation that can be used? The storage is MOD29. I'm trying to figure out if I force migrate the DSN, how many tracks/cylinders it occupies.

3.4 would be the most accurate information as the dataset is still on DASD

Have you searched the forum? There was a discussion of DCOLLECT data in the last few weeks.

A DSN can never be more than 44 bytes.

A data set can be considerably larger, of course.

This is so funny.

Do a google on DCDALLSP or DCDUSESP and ibm will give you all info.

Ah, but think of the fun/adventure if a dataset could only be 44 bytes. . . 2020.gif

I'm trying to relate either the DCDALLSB & DCDUSESP for a dsn back to what I see on 3.4. Fro example, I have a dsn on 3.4 shows 3015 tracks, 99% used. The DCDALLSP = 166838 & DCDUSESP = 166783. The storage device is 3390, MOD27.

Can't seem to come up with a calculation close to it. Any suggestions???

Check the maximum per track capacity (in bytes) on this model, might be around 56/57K.
