Hi,
We have a HDAM IMS database in a Test region which is currently running out of space. THe system Randomizer for the DB is currently pointing to the test DBDLIB. To increase the capacity, we are planning to point this to the production DBDLIB .
The question I have is if an Image copy of the DB is taken with the test DBDLIB ,will it work fine to use this image copy to restore the DB using the production DBDLIB after the switch has been made for the randomizer from Test to PROD.
Your inputs is really appreciated
Thanks, |

I am not a systems programmer and/or a DBA. Your test and production DBDs should match. If not, you would be in big trouble at turnover time. |

Yes - as long as your DBD definitions are same in both the test & production, you can use any one of the libraries.
But, why do you want to switch your DBD libraries? There is no link with DBD library for your database's space issue... and if your test database is running out of space, you can do the following:
1. DBR (deallocate) the database
2. Unload the database
3. Delete database physical dataset (VSAM cluster) and re-define it with with more space
4. Load the database from the back-up. |

The problem in increasing the space is not with the Randomizer. The databse might have been allocated to IMS. So until unless you stop (DBR) the database, you can not redefine it for additional space. |
