Hi,
Can anyone help me with the syntax for converting a date in format CCYYMMDD with the 'pic 9(8)' into 'pic 9(9) comp-3'. Date occurs in the header along with few other details before and after it. Its starting position is 27.

How do you mean the syntax for JCL

The reason I asked my previous question, reiterated, is that the JCL needs to actually execute some program to perform the conversion, and until you tell us which program that you wish the JCL to execute there is no way on earth that we can give you any syntax whatsoever.

I think it must the Alice Cooper time of year again .................

If this is what you need, be aware you have asked for the impossible. JCL does nothing but execute programs. It does not change data, it does not create data, all it does is execute programs. We need to know which program your JCL will be executing in order to provide you a meaningful answer.

Am writting a JCL to add a header and trailer to a group of records in a file. The amended records are written onto another new file. My JCL does not execute anyother program.

Please read, read again, and read again and again the response from both Robert and myself.

Keep reading and reading and reading until you understand what we are saying to you.

Please post your JCL for us to look at.

You are in for a very long week. . . Yes, your jcl does execute a program or it would not run. . .

Look closely at your jcl for one or more lines that have EXEC PGM= coded.
