Hi all,

My requirement is like:
1. I have a claim file which having header, detail and trailer records.

Now i want to create a extract for 2 particular groups say 'H11066'
and 'G11055' .But the problem is this group numbers are existing on the
detail record of the file so i dont have a particular position to use the sort card.Only thing i know it the group number. Also the input file is a production file which is in TAPE .I need to create a test file from this production file whihc having only this group numbers?

Please give any valuable input on this...

Thanks,
Purnendu

I think that you need to explain the situation in far more detail.

Are you saying that the group number is not in a fixed position within the records. If not, is there a range of positions that the identifying data will appear in.

Do the groups of records have header and trailer records, and if so, how are these records differentiated from data records.

What are the RECFM and LRECL of the input file.

If possible please give an example of the input data.

Purnendu,

Please show an example of the records in your input file (relevant fields only) and what you expect for output. Explain the "rules" for getting from input to output. Give the starting position, length and format of each relevant field. Give the RECFM and LRECL of the input file.
