Greetings.
Can anybody point me to any documentation (white papers, analyst reports etc. etc.) on the abovementioned subject?
I'm definitely not looking for the info in the TS7700/TS7740 Redbooks/manuals. I have those manuals. What I'm looking for is documentation on the important metrics, how to use them, practical experiences, pitfalls etc.
I find it amazing that there is preciously little available on the subject. At least, I cannot find it. |

Have you looked at IBM TechDocs Library? Search on TS7700 for whitepapers, etc. about Best Practices, Overviews and Samples. Check back for updates every few months.

Do you run VEHSTATS ? See reporting tool info on TechDocs, too. |

Bill,
Thanks for the url. I must admit that I didn't know about the TechDocs-site at all, but now that I do, I will be visiting the site on a regular basis.
Yes, we have VEHSTATS, but we haven't really used it yet. We have all the documentation and understand how to run it, but not how to USE it! Lots of nice looking reports, but little info on what the practical impact of the various metrics might be.
Our "problem" is that our TS7740 has been functioning without any capacity- and/or performance-problems, so there wasn't any real reason for us to delve into the subject. Not exactly the best way to go about it, I know, but that's the way it is. Now, however, we DO want to set up capacity- and performance-management.[/i] |

The TechDocs Whitepaper on Performance and Monitoring (WP101465) is my best suggestion as a place to begin. Chapter 4 describes what other users are monitoring. |
