Hi All,
Is there any way to find out the creation date& time of a GDG generation?
I know that LISTCAT gives the creation history of a file, but i can see only the creation date in teh listcat output. I want the creation time also.
Thanks in advance |

And why do you want useless information?
And what are you calling "creation time"? A job opens a new output file at 8:00 AM exactly; the job then runs for 7 hours ending at 3:00 PM. The last record was written to the file at 10:17 AM but since the file was still open, the file is not considered created until 3 PM -- even though 8 AM and 10:17 could both be considered as creation times. This is why I said you're wanting useless information.
AFAIK, the only way to get this (whichever you want to use) is from the SMF data. |

SMF record type 61 will tell you when the catalog entry was created.
This is NOT a guarantee of when the file was created, but I would guess at it being 99.9% accurate.
Type 61 is not too difficult to decipher
