Hi all,

When i try to browse a PS file in FILE-AID using a copybook, i am getting an error that just says "ERROR NEAR LINE 3" and the current source dataset is given as say " xx.yyyy.zzzz(aaaaaa) " where aaaaaa is the copybook. * actual names masked for security reasons *
When i hit "enter" after this, i get a message saying "NO RECORD LAYOUT".

Please let me know if anyone knows how to resolve this issue.

Thanks,
Vishnu

Was there an associated error code issued, and if so, what does it say about it in the manual.

I got a screen like this:

File-AID ------------------- SOURCE STATEMENT SELECTION ---- ERROR NEAR LINE 3
COMMAND ===>

"CURRENT" source dataset: XXXX.YYYY.ZZZZZZZ(AAAAAAA)

For entire member, enter blanks in top two sections.
For partial member, enter line numbers or beginning and ending string.

Record layout selection by full dataname or full word character string:
Beginning string ===>
Ending string ===>

Record layout selection by Source Statement line number:
Beginning number ===>
Ending number ===>
Number type ===> (Standard ISPF; COBOL; or Relative)

Compiler options:
Language ===> COBOL (COBOL or PL/1)
Starting level nbr ===> 01
Use 48 character set ===> NO (Yes or No; PL/1 only)

didnt get any associated errors.

Kinda baffled by this.

Hello,

Are you able to successfully use this file outside of FileAid?

What was this job?

What happens if you try to browse the file without using the copybook?

Then check the copybook around line 3.
There is a "thing" File Aid cannot decode.

If you need more help,please show the copybook.
That's all.

Pierre is correct. I ran into this error couple of times; usually, it was with a new copybook. Please show us the copybook as Pierre has said or hit PF1 and check if your site shows a longer descriptive message ...

heyy.. thanks for all the responses folks.
The error was due to a group variable being delcared with a PIC clause.
It was kind of silly, but FILE-AID was not pointing to the line which had the error due to which it took some time to figure out the mistake.
