what is the difference between flat file and sequential file?
an any body send me some realtime related questions regarding db2 , jcl, cobol, and there answer also? |

hi,
upto my knowledge flat file & sequential files are same. there is no difference, we call the same with two different names. Don't ask me why we call with two different names(just kidding).

Out of curiosity, the term "flat file" is usually NOT associated with mainframe datasets, right? It seems the only folks I ever hear referring to data as a "flat file" are the non-mainframe Windows/Unix guys, where I think that is an actual valid term. |

Yes superk,
You are right, Even I also belive that "FLAT file" is not an actual term mentioned in any of the mainframe reference.
This also confused me initially. Thanks for clarification. |
