I am not sure I understand your question! Do you want the purpose or the format?

You can look at the help for the CALL command issuing HELP CALL command in TSO.

Or look in the Rexx Reference manual for the CALL instruction.

While going thru the File tailoring skeleton, I found to things in the ISPF reference manual.
1) Command Invocation Format
2) Call Invocation Format
I could not get the exact purpose of CAll Invocation Format.
That is why I asked.

For each service, the command procedure or command invocation format is shown, followed by the call or call invocation format.

The command formats are provided as CLIST or REXX command procedures, using ISPEXEC.

Call formats are shown in PL/I syntax, although you are not limited to PL/I calls. For example, ";" ends statements in the formats described. This is a PL/I convention, but you should use the syntax appropriate for your programming language.

Does that answer your question? The Call formats are used in the high-levlel languages: PL/I as mentioned, as well as Cobol and Assembler. If I remember correctly, I believe SAS uses the command format as well. You'll see the appropriate format when you use the proper ISPF Edit Model for the language you're using.
