Hello,

Please look at this topic
ibmmainframes.com/viewtopic.php?p=185877#185877

Data that has been "coded" is not properly aligned. The hex over/under is correct, but characters in the "data" line have been shortened.

Here is a bit of the same data:
Code:
  ;Ò Ø @   ïCHALU4.0.   0   ° ¤
005E08070005CCCDEF4F4004F4419390000
00ED000C0047381344B0B010000000F000F
-----------------------------------
  ;Ó        ø¤    M           DELHI
005E02010002790000D44444444444CCDCC
00EE010D00800F000F40000000000045389
-----------------------------------

Thank you,

d

It looks good to me, both with Firefox and MSIE.....
Dick, if what you posted is not aligned correctly, I'd guess that the problem is in your browser.

E        F              G
H                 I                      J                             K

Hi Mac,

Sorry, but i don't understand the question?

The "Code" you posted appears to be "spaced" when i see it, but i have no frame of reference to say if the spacing is all the same (fixed rather than proportional).

The times i've noticed the inconsistent spacing is when the line contains other than "regular" displayable characters - i.e. not on the keyboard, but they do display.

Dick,

Do a quote and copy the data between the codes.
Paste it into notpad and compare both.
They lined up correctly for me.

Hi Bill,

They'd pretty much have to if the notepad font was fixed (rather than proportional) would they not. . .

It was my understanding that everyting within "Code" was fixed font, but in the attachment i sent, the "data line" is skewed.

This happens on multiple pc's that i use. Tonight i'll try to run a Firefox test and see what happens.

Hello,

Using Firefox, there is no "Code" alignment problem.

Using IE 6, the problem persists.

Thanks,

d

Ahh, if they were only "mine". . . . Several of the custom apps we support will not run on IE7 - some kind of incompatability in the way the code was built.

I don't really understand why a fixed font is not fixed for all characters, but i suppose i don't really need to icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the followup and it is good to know that many/most don't experience "the shift".

Have you tried Unicode(UTF-8) Character encoding?

Hi Mac,

UTF-8 makes it much worse. . .

Code:
  ;Ҡؠ@   ALU4.0.   0   ? ?
005E08070005CCCDEF4F4004F4419390000
00ED000C0047381344B0B010000000F000F

00EE010D00800F000F40000000000045389
-----------------------------------

Some characters are coverted to &#strings when i copy/paste icon_confused.gif
