I need to pull records from 10 states. the lrecl = 13004, recfm=vb, and there are re-occurring fields. The re-occurring fields have an fixed indicator field that tell you how many times the reoccurring field will be populated.
How do I get to the data is these fields? |

Hello and welcome to the forums.
It's not clear what you are trying to do. Could you please explain with a few sample input records(showing relevant fields) and the expected output out of it. While posting data use the "Code" tag provided here for better readability. |

1) I need to pull all data for NY, DC, GA. This data can be found in a field on the record that occurs up to 13 times.
2) There are five other fields that can occur from 3 to 13 times.
and pull the record.
3) All re-occurring field have a indicator field that will tell you how many time the re-occurring field will re-occur. These indicators are in the fixed prosion of the record.
My problem is, how do I locate this field show the state?[/code] |

Barbara,
As Arun had previously stated, it would be more helpful if you could provide some sample input records and the desired output.
Thank you. |

Couldn't you just use your imagination
It doesn't have to be the actual all singing dancing live data, just a graphical representation of the way that the records are laid out, what format the fields are in, just to clarify to those that wish to help you.
Maybe something like ..........
pos 390 field occurs indicator PD 2bytes
pos 392 fields 1-n character 10 bytes
And then explain the situation. |

Basically a "cop-out". . .
If you are unwiling to do a bit of work to present somthing that reflects your requirement no one should post anything in reply. . . If anything other than a better explanation/definition of the requirement is posted, it will be deleted until the explanation/definition is posted. When you create sample data, it does not need to be "full-size" only enough to show the requirement. You need to post some sample input records and the output you want when these sample input records are processed. |

Barbara,
You dont really need to post the 'actual' data. If you could just prepare some dummy input records and post it here along with the expected output, it might help us to help you. Good luck. |
