Do we have a document containing a validation that the correct copybook is being called for recompiles or by the modules?
Thank you all |

Hello,
This would depend on how Configuration Management (CM) is implemented in the organization. . .
There is nothing in IBM cobol that ensures the correct copybook is used. When the compile is run, the member found in the copylib pds is used, but there is no way to ensure it is the correct copybook.
Possibly i misunderstand the question? |

Zai,
Its the developers responsibility to have the latest and correct copybook in the COPYLIB pds and AFAIK there are no tools for this. |

I appreciate your help. I just need to know if we have the formal documentation regarding the topic I posted. No one misunderstood the questions I had. All had a great answer and are helpful. |

Any formal documentation would be organization specific. To know if there is formal documentation on your system, suggest you talk with the people responsible for Configuration Management or Quality Control. |

Hi,
Even if I've one it will not work for you, as suggested it becomes a site specific question. However, I think - if you tell us how does this question coined out, may be better answer will pour in. |

We use ChangeMan Tool in our organisation, which takes care of the latest and correct generation used in the program otherwise it throws an error. It picks latest generations from the base libraries and during compilation checks for the correctness of the copybook's variables. Hope this would help. Or you can check the ChangMan tool's manual on the Internet for further reference.
Thanks,
Dave |

Hi,
Change Man will tell you the error in(with) the "current" copybook it will not tell if you have used a right copybook or not - it's a programmer's responsibilty. Copy-book is a just a name anyways. |
