Sathya,
You can use the utility IEFBR14 with disposition for your dataset
Disp=(OLD,DELETE,DELETE).

Which will atually mount the tape.
Have you considered IDCAMS DELETE which will not mount the tape
Also consider chatting to your storage people, who may also have TMS retrntion in place which will not be affected by your delete. |

Hello,
If you use iefbr14 and specify deferred mounting (unit=)cart,,defer), the drive will be momentarily allocated, but the mount will never be issued.
If multiple datasets are to be uncataloged in a single iefbr14 run, make sure that they refer back to first file/drive and do not require multiple tape drives to simply uncatalog some obsolete files.
As Expat mentioned, the best course of actoin is to talk with the tape storage management people for guidance. |

try DELETE / SCRATCH beside the dataset...this will uncatalog the dataset..though the tape is still active at the background...and to get the tape into scratch you can either do it through CA1 panel or run a job to scratch it. |
