Hi,

How to know the user/job once we got the message "DATASET IN USE" while editting a file in File-aid.

Tried F1 twice but of no use.

Thanks.

Go to 3.4... Type "WHOHAS" to the left of the dataset. You can give it a try.

not avery shop has "WHOHAS"
a vanilla approach would be thru the use of
"TSO ISRDDN" and hit PF1 for the commands

Hi,

1. If You are just curious - enter TSO ISRDDN ENQ and You will be taken to a panel wher You can specify the deatils of Your ENQ search.

2. When trying to edit and you get a dataset in use, you hit PF1 twice, you will get a list of who's using the file.

Anyways, I'm available with WHOHAS.. icon_smile.gif

Very often I use FILE-AID to edit VSAM files and these files are open in some CICS regions. I close them first in the CICS region so that I don't get "DATASET IN USE" while editing.

Hello,

Is this a vsam file or some other file?

If it is not a vsam file, try the edit in tso/ispf and F1 twice will identify who has the dataset.

And where did you try ? I hope you hit F1 only when you tried to open the DSN in edit mode & there is a message "Data set in use " (at my shop it's on upper right hand corner) - else it won't be of any help.
