Hi all,
I got our MVS Sysprog to agree to laying down the July 2008 and it will be implemented with our December IPL. In the mean time some of the examples that I have been copying over from this site and (like a bunch of stuff we have to do) sometimes it works with ICEMAN, or ICETOOL and sometimes I have to flip to SORT. Kinda screwy.
So, when this PTF gets laid down can I just use ICETOOL program for everything ? Or can i use SORT ....or ICEMAN. Dunno.
No hurry on answer and thanks for the Forum ! |

PGM=ICEMAN and PGM=SORT are equivalent. They both invoke DFSORT.
PGM=ICETOOL invokes DFSORT's ICETOOL.
If you are doing functions provided by the ICETOOL operators (e.g. DATASORT, SUBSET, SELECT, SPLICE, DISPLAY, OCCUR, etc), then you MUST use ICETOOL.
If you are doing a sort or copy operation, then you can either use DFSORT directly, or you can use an ICETOOL SORT or COPY operator.
If you are doing a merge, you'd want to use DFSORT, not ICETOOL since ICETOOL doesn't have a MERGE operator. |
