Hi,
We usually checkpoint restart with the last check point id issued. But can we do the same with the second last checkpoint id.
This is just out of curiosity. |

Is it mean that the DB will keep only the log of last issued checkpoint? |

Hi,
DB..? It's the programmer's responsibility rather..
If you issue symbolic checkpoint calls (for batch and BMP programs), you can use the Extended Restart system service request (XRST) to restart your program after an abnormal termination. The XRST call restores the program's data areas to the way they were when the program terminated abnormally, and it restarts the program from the last checkpoint request the program issued before terminating abnormally. |

This is what topic starter (TS) wrote. IMHO TS should have been smart enough to do some investigation him/herself. It's kind of you to post the link but TS should have done some searching. As for the question by TS it looks like he/she wonders if a partial recovery will work.
My advice: TS has no problem, is just curios, so stop putting energy in it |

Hi all,
Thanks a lot the time taken to help me. I used to regularly watch for any updates to my querry.
The query I had posted was not only because of my curiosity, but also to have a clear understanding of the working of checkpoint. As a part of testing I had tried to restart the abended program with the correct checkpoint id. I just wanted to make sure how the negative test case with the incorrect checkpoint id works.
I dont want to make an issue out of this. Thanks to Anuj for sharing with me the following link 'Ranked Search Results for Document: dfsapgg1 "IMS V9 Appl. Programming: Design Guide' form where I got the solution to my problem. |
