What's wrong with IDCAMS, apart from you having to do some work to code the control statements ?
Is there any common pattern to the dataset names ?
Or any exclusions |

Hi,
..continued with Exapt's post..if the DSNs are un-cataloged, then You need to supply volume information...&
PS.: Perhaps, I would like to ask, why would some some shops just un-catalog some DSNs, I've never did it in my business, can some one please assit me here. |

Errrrrrr, my understanding in this case is because they are tape datasets, uncatalog is the usual method to delete them. |

Ask the tape librarians to EXPIRE the tapes if you really want the data gone (over-written by new files). |

Thanks to all,
i have used IDCAMS , and given the volumes parameter in sysin dd * , but it gives me error. that This parameter is unrecognized.
Anyways . i got the solution and i have implemented using IEFBR14. |

Post your IDCAMS errors, IDCAMS is far more efficient than IEFBR14 |

Hi,
why do you need to give the volumes if the dataset is catalogued, it seems to defeat it's purpose.

Anuj said, "..if the DSNs are un-cataloged, then You need to supply volume information...". If they are cataloged, you don't need to supply the volid. |

Neither an IDCAMS DELETE nor an IEFBR14 with DISP=(OLD,DELETE) will actually delete the file from the tape. The data exists until the tape is re-written or magnetically erased. |
