COBOL on which platform?
MATLAB can accept ASCII text files as input. As far as I know matlab finds its extensive use in DSP (Digital Signal processing), what kind of project are you working on?

Hi Rakesh,

When You post something you should delete the system generated messages which appear 'by default' on your first post.

By MATLAB here I think you mean "matrix laboratory", if so, in MATLB every thing is in matrix form while COBOL does have many other data types. What type of output do you get from your cobol program ?

I think it would not be that easy, tried to google on "COBOL to MATLAB conversion" but didn't find any good hit, I'll give some more tries.

If you mean something else by MATLAB, please let us know, so that some one here might have some better suggestion.

/generic answer... on
YES, NO, it depends
/generic answer off

does MATLAB accept as input a sequential file,
what is the format of the sequential file ( text ??)
do all the fields of the sequential file have a cobol equivalent format
is there any platform compatiblity issue
( cobol on mainframe, MATLAB on PC, downloading the file to the PC ... )

check for example

Hi Anuj,

Thanks for the link you have provided.By MATLAB, I mean "matrix laboratory" only.Right now I didn't tried giving output of Cobol+ DB2 program as input to MATLAB. I will try that and if I get any problem regarding that, I will post a query again.

It takes be back to my college time, where I'd a project done in MATLAB, never thought to use it with COBOL. Looking forward to your reply... Good Luck.. icon_smile.gif

Just to correct myself

in MATLAB every thing is in array form
matrix is an in-built function there.. icon_redface.gif

BTW, you didn't answer Abhijit's question

I am working in a project which has just started. My role in that is to extract the data from the DB2 database and to keep it in a file and that file is the input to the Matlab to generate some reports. However, Mainframes is not yet installed in our systems, that's why it may take some time for me to try that.
