Hi all,
Can anyone please tell me if there is any inbuilt function to make a BEEP sound through a REXX program.
Thanks in advance....

Hi enrico,
thanx for your reply. My program is in MSYS (test env).. MVS batch
Could you please shed some light on the beep function in REXX please.
I searched in the forum, but couldn't find a satisfactory answer.
Thanks,

that' s why I asked about the environment
In a ISPF dialogs You can display messages sounding the alarm ,
I am afraid that in plain rexx it is not possible |

The 3270 supports it. ISPF can do it. Should be doable from rexx!
I googled and found information about 3270 Data Stream Programming. One page had an assembler example. I think it is just a matter of getting a particular string of characters to the 3270 and it will try to do it.
I converted the assembler example to a simple rexx program which writes to the screen and also sounds the bell.
Code: |
/*rexx */
Say ,
'C7114BF0'x || '1DF0'x || '2841F2'x ||,
'2842F6'x || 'HELLO, WORLD!' || '1DF0'x
|
I know this example is awkward for what was asked, but I figure this may help a little and someone else can take it a step farther.
Actually, it seemed like isnehil wanted to beep from MVS batch, but that is not possible at all. |

It can only do it in conjunction with an ISPF message
1. add a message to your ISPMLIB concatenation. The message definition should specify .ALARM=YES
2. use Address ISPEXEC "SETMSG MSG(yourmsg)" to cause message to be displayed. |
