What do you mean by "browse mode or view mode"? Are you talking about ISPF Editor session?

Hello,

How is a "bad record" defined?

When you have a question, it is usually a good idea to post some sample "input" data and what you want to happen to that data.

Again - What do you mean by "opened in browse mode"? Is it open in your editor, or by a program?

What does the ISPF documentation say about ...
BROWSE, VIEW, EDIT ??

the answer is there

if You have write access to the dataset no reason not to use edit.

But... as usual there are many gotchas

if a dataset containing application data, it is usually forbidden
to update it outside a proper environment.
( batch program, online transaction )
these environments are auditable, an ISPF edit session is not

the paperwork which has to be done for such an action
usually takes more time than to write a program icon_biggrin.gif

Hello,

Again, to be of much help, we need some usable info. . .

Some sample records (good and bad) might help us see what you are trying to do. Knowing how the file became "opened in browse mode" would help us help you.

The answer may be to simply "edit" the file - i do not understand why browse an issue. Keep in mind that if this is some production file, i strongly suggest some record of the deleted records be kept. Simply adding/changing/deleting production records with an editor is a very bad practice.

Keep in mind that while your question is completely clear to you, it may not be to those who read it.

Assuming you have the authority to delete some of these records and the dataset is too large to put in edit mode, no, you can't delete in view or browse mode....
FileAid might be able to do this, or, by record count (from the browse and/or view mode), or, by specific identification of the 'badness', Sort could do what you need.....

I don't know if IBM changed the rules, but you could delete/change recs in view mode by entering "X ALL" in the cmd line after the changes were made. Then enter "C" in the cmd line to the left of the "dash" line (----) and enter "REPLACE membername" in the cmd line, where membername is the name of the member you updated.

That being done, use "CAN" in the cmd line to end the process.
