Hi,

If u did all the procedure to get the solution, still if you are not getting means, all the 16 extents may be allocate.

take a back up of the file, create a dataset with same name change with the required attributes and copy back to the created dataset.

PDSE datasets should have 123 extents, with no limit to the number of Datablocks. Was the file created as a 'LIBRARY'??

E37 suggests a single extent dataset, take a look at the allocation and increase it and also include secondaries if not already in place.

PDSE is the extent of PDS, it can do so for 16 times. So please check whether its used percentage has been 100%.
Solution is compress it or just create a bigger dataset.

As to VSAM, its secondary allocation can be 123 times.

lots of useless traffic...
did the O/P read the manual, I doubt

Quote:

E37
Explanation: The error occurred when an output operation was requested. The data set was on a direct access or magnetic tape device. This system completion code is accompanied by message IEC032I. Refer to the explanation of message IEC032I for complete information about the task that was ended and for an explanation of the return code (rc in the message text) in register 15.

Programmer Response: Respond as indicated for message IEC032I.

when the O/P will post the IEC032i message received
/sarcasm on
in order to save the O/P precious time somebody will look at the
messages and codes manual and paste the IBM suggested actions
/sarcasm off

nothing sure was told about the real organization of the dataset [/quote]

Clarification required here .........

PDSE is not an extent of a PDS

PDS and PDSE are two completely different animals. You do not need to compress a PDSE where you do need to compress a PDS. The number of directory blocks is fixed within a PDS but dynamic within PDSE.

100% utilised does not mean that there are no more extents available to allocate, merely that the currently allocated space has been used up.
