We have a VSAM file which keeps on Building every week. It is present in a particular volume. Now the volume is getting full. Can I Move the particular dataset to another volume? Is there any option?
I dont want to copy the file to another volume and deleting the original and renaming the copied to the original name as it takes considerable down time of our application. |

I am sorry if I was not clear.. I dont want to Copy but i want to move (Cut) the dataset to another volume.
Please read the following as a single sentence "I dont want to copy the file to another volume and deleting the original and renaming the copied to the original name as it takes considerable down time of our application."
There is no other datasets in the particular volume. |

Maybe I am not getting the point...
moving takes the same time as copy....
the chosen utility will have to shuffle bits around
it is not like unix where a move on the same device is really a rename !
but it will take time when copying/moving to different dev' s
the application downtime will be the same in any case
