Here is the same reply to the same question you posted earlier.
I won't comment on having a job with 290 steps.
Split the job in half and add a last step to the first half to submit the second half. |

Hi rohitsood16!
A time ago, I wrote a whole litte article about the mystic of 255.
Also i discussed your problem with some other older programmers.
So first, please search the forum for that.
Second, when i here, that someone has to have in mind to do such a silly, stupid and hazardous thing, sorry, but then my blood pressure is rising up to a dangerous level. Sorry for beeing so directly.
Today we are in 2007 and very soon we have 2008.
We have JobShedulingSystems and a lot of Utilities and ThirdParty Produkts, which permit us to design and create clearly structured JCL without having not more than two steps in one Job and shedule a lot of separate Job with several dependencies.
Could you ever imagine, that eventually, in fact of a ugly problem, someone else has to modify this "JobStream" in the middle of the night after some bottels of red wine and a lazy time with two blondes !!!
The older ones of us did that a lot. And i think i'm not the only one, who
would just have blown away the brain of that guy, who was responible for such a thing, that i had to modify under time pressure so that production could go on.
The only thing i can do, is to shake my head. Who the hell has inspired you to that idea.
Sorry again for my straight answer. But please search for this discussion
in the forum, read all the answers, and then think abaout it twice.
Regards & nice Weekend, UmeySan |

The "other" topic was not deleted before your duplicate post and my subsequent note. What happened is that someone moved your original post to some other part of the forum (i don't recall exactly who).
I suspect that when you went back into where you posted, the topic was not there, so you believed it had been deleted. If something "disappears" in the future, i'd suggest you click the "Posts: " below your name in a topic and a list of your posts will be presented. From the list you can see if a topic has been moved to some other part of the forum.
On the issue of so many jobsteps in a single job. If you explain why so many, we may be able to offer alternative suggestoins. As has been already mentioned, dealing with any abend/restart for this job could be extremely dangerous/difficult. |
