This may have to do with a DISP parameter and probably the GSAM is inaccessable. Try to define it again and make sure you initiate it (open/close).

Hello folks,

I've got this same error U0271.

In my case, a BMP program was executing and had a deadlock (U0777). However, I restarted the program with the wrong GSAM file, then I got the U0271, message "DFSZDC00 I/O ERROR DBDNAME=B5824FD0 DDNAME=DB5824FD" (DB5824FD is the GSAM ddname).

The GSAM was a GDG file and I got the abend because the last generation (+0) was not the same one by the time I restarted the program. Then, I indicated the correct GSAM file and the program was restarted successfully.

Regards,
Eder

We have a general standard for BMP jobs not to have DISP=(NEW,... on GSAM output, but preallocate in an earlier jobstep and have DISP=OLD on GSAM output DDs.

If output to GDG is needed, the GSAM DD writes to a temporary file and the new GDG generation is created in a subsequent copy jobstep.

This for simplifying restart modifications if a job has to be restarted in a BMP checkpoint.
