We have an ftp related requirement wherein extracts from VSAM prod files are first written to flat files and then sent across over ftp to a non mainframe system.
I had stacked about 12 PUT statements for 12 different files. The output files being .TXT files. No zipping was involved.
The ftp log gives the bytes transfered but it does not seem to be the same as the output files size in the LIST of the ftp.
Does this necessarily mean we have lost data or is it possible tht no data is lost. There were absolutely no errors in the ftplog. |

It is possible that no data was lost.
If you send the same files from the mainframe to the target system multiple times, is the file size on the receiving system the same or does it change? If the size stays the same, you should have no problem. If the size changes, i suggest you need to understand what is the difference in the files received. |

Comparing two sets of data across disparate systems using something so arbitrary as number of bytes is pointless. The data needs to be validated by a record count, a transaction count, or by the presence of a specific header/trailer and, possibly, regularly spaced batch totals. |
