The system nucleus is the part of the control pgm (OS) that is loaded into internal memory at IPL time. It resides in main memory until the next IPL and contains among other things cntl blocks, data areas, in memory functions, etc. necessary to running the system. It is, as its name implies, the center of the operating system.
SYSGEN is the process used to create the operating system (environment) for a system. What those characters mean in the dump I can't say. They may be just a name someone at IBM chose to use for a data field. It may be something involved in doing SYSGENs for other systems from the system represented by the SYSABEND listing you're looking at. I'm not sure they can do that. Years ago most SYSGENs were done from a standolone system. |

Hi saidhar,
IPL is
Initial
Program
Load
That's part of what the operators do to "bring up the system".

What you see in a SYSABEND listing is a snapshot of the system at the time of the abend. Some problems are caused by OS malfunctions as opposed to application problems. Generally OS problem determination requires looking at the code and/or data in the nucleus as well as other parts of the OS.
Some have spent their careers answering your question in detail. To answer that question one must understand the inner workings of the IBM OS running at the time of the abend.
If you REALLY want to know the full answer go to IBM's website and search for the PLMs (Progam Logic Manuals). Don't know if they still call them that. They describe the inner workings of the OS and explain all the pgm logic and data areas used and how they're connected, updated, created, deleted, etc.
Once you know all that you can look at a dump and chain thru the cntl blks, etc. and determine the cause of the abend. Good luck, post us back in about 10 yrs or so and let us know how you made out. |
