Hi,
I am on the process of developing a tool using Visual Basic which will run on windows platform. The tool is basically handling SQL queries. I am sending queries through the tool to DB2. Can anyone guide me how to connect to the mainframe database through Visual Basic as this is the first time I am trying to connect to Mainframes through windows!
Thanks and regards,
Arun.A |

Hello,
Your best bet is to talk with the network and/or the DB2 support people and have them tell you how this is done at your location.
Organizations that support remote connectivity usually have standard practices and they should be followed. |

You can do it by using DB2CONNECT entreprise version software. Before this, you need to have a port opened by your DB2 DBA for this tool to access the database.
You can use a ODBC:JDBC driver to connect to DB2 from a Java applicarion. I am not sure about VB. |

Hello,
The connection is not necessarily language dependent - it is all up to what connection(s) have been /will be defined and the rules for using them.
As suggested previously, check with your network and database people for how this should be done on your system.
Good luck and we're here if there are questions after you've actually begun using the connection on your system. |

You're welcome
Once you have it working, and if you have a few minutes to post your solution, it may help others with a similar question later. |
