Are you referring Update or Inquiry Jobs.

Most of the time if there is any contention of the DB dataset then the DB will be displayed in Job log with messag like which job it's waiting and reason ..etc.

The contention can happen with design flaws or batch jobs overlapping. Just make sure the timing of batch jobs doesnt overlap.

In your IMS region issue the following command:

/DIS REG A

This is provide you with the information your require.

After getting this information you can do the take nessesary actions to release the database.

If you don't know what an IMS region is I'm afraid you also won't be able to issue the dis reg command. Any system operator around to help you out? BTW, is this one related to your ITEM-problem in another topic? If so please combine them so we all understand the complete problem icon_wink.gif

George,

Thanks for ur reply on both the topic.

Both are different issues. Actually we dont have access to IMS Online Screens in our system. We have access only to IMS File-aid to browse.

The thing is, the job is getting abended with Abend code of U850 (IMS Contention). So, I need to analyse with which resource/Job is it getting contented with. Is there any other method to find that.

Please advise. Thanks for all Ur replies in advance.

Do you know the IMS control region job name running on system? That could help you to find out the resources holding the IMS database. :?:

Since an IMS database is plain VSAM you could try to find out using TSO if you know the DSNAME.
