How can we know whether a VSAM file is updated or not in a step? One way is to take backup before the step run and compare the two files.I am curious whether a byte is set or there is some utility command like IDCAMS command to know whether the file was updated in the step or not?

Would not the program give any statistics from its processing,

e.g. nnn Records updated in master file ?

or something similar. Most well written and documented programs do that sort of thing.
