hi Ravi,

The number of members can exist in a directory block is

(number of directory blocks * 6) - 1

so it is possible to have 5 members if we create a pds with directoty block 1.

Regarding your second problem, it the PDS may not have any space in it. ie) your primary and secondary allocations are used. If thatz is the condition there is no use in compressing the dataset. Try increasing the space allocated..

See I have a PDS that has
Current Utilization
Used cylinders . . : 22
Used extents . . . : 1
Used dir. blocks . : 1
Number of members . : 7
that resides on 3390 Device, the formula that u gave doesnt satsfy this condition. DO u think the Device type also palys a part.

Hi Nadel,

Can you show the JCL you used to create the PDS. The answer probably lies there.

Jack,

I created using the ISPF Allocate option,

Current Allocation
Allocated cylinders : 22
Allocated extents . : 1
Maximum dir. blocks : 10

If you want any more details let me know.

Hi die7nadal,

Have you allocated it as PDS or PDS-E?
