what is a Physical and Symbolic MAP ?

Can anybody explain what is a Physical and Symbolic MAP ?

Physical Map is stand alone..
Symbolic Map is the one where u have interaction with the Application Program..

Physical map is the load module of the map where as the symbolic map is the structure of the map with which map can be referred to in the program
