What error code will come if I access unavailable GDG Gen

hI,

I have created GDG base with limit 60 , By Mistake if i access 61st version what error code will come.

Hi,

You will get JCL error saying 'Dataset not found'

u will get a JCL error "DATASET NOT FOUND", bcoz what generation u r trying to access is not there.

It depends on whether or not the 61st has been created. If yes you'll get NO error. But you'll get an error if you try to access the 1st generation.

hey, as the GDG is defined with a limit of 60, hw will it create 61st gen....

if i give a different dcb parameters for different generation and i wish to concatenate that generation what error it will comes.

u will get jcl error 'DATASET NOT FOUND', because the dataset u trying access is not created...

If there are 60 (or less) datasets cataloged for the generation data group, then an attempt to access the 61st generation (i.e relative address -60) will result in the JCL error message

"IM256696 IEF212I jobname stepname ddname - DATA SET NOT FOUND".

However, if you access the generation directly by it's explicit name, i.e.,
'HLQ.DATASET.GDG.G0001V00', then you will not have a problem.

An attempt to use the relative index beyond the range of the LIMIT will result in "DATA SET NOT FOUND". Using the explicit name (i.e. the "GooVoo") will work just fine.
