All,
My organization is looking for a analysis tool (Like Xped Dev Ent of compuware for Cobol) for mainframe assembler programs/applications to increase the programmer productivity.
Please note that I am not looking debugging tools like XPED or CA-INERTEST.
I appreciate if you let me know good tools with merits and demerits. It will be great help for me
Could you explain me more detailed what you want to analyse in assembler programms.
Increasing programmer productivity also means to have a interactive trace and test utility. Cause that what programmers do. They design and
programm some applikations. I'm working just the whole Life with tools like Endevor/Panvalet and Xpediter, and if you design komplex applikations or system-transactions in assembler, using XPED is just a great help. As I'm working in several companies as a freelancer, i'm used to some of theese tools. I prefare Xpediter in an MVS-Environment.
Also MicroFocusWorkbench is a great tool to devellop mainframe applications in ClientServerEnvironment.
Hi,
thanks for your reply.
it is a maintenence project on mainframes and we recieve complex requests to add/change some functionality to the existing application. For analyasis programmers are taking much time. So I am looking if any tool that helps in analyasis.
We have a great product for assembler for batch and CICS that works in the background or interactively. (also works for CBOL) Background is the best way to capture information because it doesn't interfere with the program. Step thru is so slow and general requires you modify your JCL and test files to make them smaller. And for assembler step thru is useless because it is so hard to see instruction information, whereas our background instrcution capture shows you before and after data and so much more. We are just 3 guys and sell our software much cheaper than all other MVS vendors. Let me know what you are interested in batch or onlie and I can give you a trial cop.
cheers
