Hi,

can someone tellme wat the function of an attention key is?

when i recall a dataset, it takes at least 5 to 6 mins, and i cant do anything else at that time on my session!someone told me that if i use the attention key during dataset recall, the TSO will b free so that i can work on it while the recall will continue to happen in the back ground!!!

if someone could please throw some light on this, It would be real helpful!!!!

Thanks in advance,
Rakesh!!!

Attention keys are for TSO and ISPF just as ctrl+alt+del (other interrupts) for windows. They create program interrupts and specific keys are used for specific purposes. If you right click in your TSO/ISPF session, you will be able to see all the attention keys. You can even "handle" these attention keys in your user programs!

For your purpose (to convert the recall to background), you need to push Esc key twice.

Rakesh,

Probably you may want to issue "HRECALL" command at the left side of the Dataset name to free back your dataset in background without keeping ur TSO seesion busy.

Bharanidharan - The 'right click' is emulation-dependent. Each emulation provides a differnent set/methods of keys activation.

Oh, I have worked with 2 emulators before and haven't found any difference, so I assumed things would be the same for others as well. Thanks for the information!
