Hi
I have been working in COBOL, DB2, CICS for over 2 years now. New requirements in my project requires me to learn IMS DB-DC. I would like to know what are the prospects for the technology in future when compared to DB2-CICS etc. Also, what would be a good starting point in terms of reference materials(links if so) for learning IMS DB-DC. I was told that the new project would be a Huge Development Project.

If compared to DB2-CICS...Definitely not so vast......
But anyway you'll get to learn something new......and its only going to add something in your skill set....So its prospects should be brightning for you......as you said its a Huge development project.....

Steve Eckols is very good book to start with......also u'll find lots of links in the forum itself.....

IMS is an old database and because of rapid outsourcing, those IMS projects are getting outsourced to India. You know very well that migration projects of IMS-DB2 is carried out in large scale where after some time you will find DB2 as core database in the market.
People are minimising the usage of IMS because it require extrodinary skill set to handle.
Better stick on to DB2- CICS but knowledge on anything will always be useful. |
