we use to give the VOLUME name while pointing to a DATASET in the DD statement

hi gautam...i like to what vol=(,,,,99) exactly means...what is all the four commas represent and 99 represent in that parameter

Did you look at the JCL Reference manual for info on VOL parameter?

I hope your example should have only 3 commas! This positional parameter is for the volume count. When creating a non-SMS controlled file, the system only builds a control block for 5 volume serial numbers. To allow for more than 5 you must include the vol-count or get an x37 abend.

Hi,
the fourth comma will be a JCL error, the other 3 will be in the IBM manuals as suggested.
