Please explain this step ' SORT FIELDS=(1,4,BI,A)' ?

I am not able to understand that what will this sort step do ?
what does BI and FI value means ?

the sort key is position 1 to 4, it is binary and the sequence is ascending.

ektaag,

you really should RTFM! I can see not understanding overlay, include or other parms (since you obviously don't see the need to read anything).

but sort fields is a basic, basic parm for sort. Your lack of understanding is beyond the function of this forum. You really need to RTFM and stop with the questions, until you know enough to ask a question.

If you're not familiar with DFSORT and DFSORT's ICETOOL, I'd suggest reading through "z/OS DFSORT: Getting Started". It's an excellent tutorial, with lots of examples, that will show you how to use DFSORT, DFSORT's ICETOOL and DFSORT Symbols.
