Hello Bosses,

I have a query regarding the modification Date of a VSAM/Sequential file. I can get the reference Date of the files by putting S or I just before of the files. But this may be different of the modification Date. Could anyone please tell me how can I get the last modification date on a VSAM/Sequential File? I heard that from SMF record it can be obtained but I don't know much details. Please throw some details about the SMF and please tell me how can I view that record.
Thanks in advance for your help.

hello,

I bleieve I've seen this post somewhere anyway...

SMF keeps track of any action on the system in a smf dump dataset
there is (or should be) a regular process that each time a smf dataset is full trigger oa dump/clear job of the smf files.
You can thrU SMF utility either dump (not clearing) the SMF file or dump/clear. You may want want to use the current smf dump file but it will contain only data to the last dump/clear process.

the SMF activity data is actually extractable tru type of records :

VSAM Component or Cluster Opened .... TYPE62-VSAM-OPEN
VSAM Catalog Entry Delete ........... TYPE67-VSAM-DELE
VSAM Catalog Entry Renamed .......... TYPE68-VSAM-RENA
VSAM Data Space Defined, Extended, .. TYPE69-VSAM-DSD

Before starting anything, you should talk to those sys guys, they may help you more that I can as to what is the datasetname that keeps SMF records (cumul) what type of records you need to extract, and they may even have a utility to do this.

hope it helps
