Thanks for that information. Does it mean the COBOL programming what we are using in mainframe is similar to SAS programming? I want to switch my filed to clinal research where they are asking for SAS knowledge. Currently am working in mainframe technology. Hope you got my question!

Just like elephants and mice are similar because they're mammals. SAS, especially when used in a specialized area like clinical research, has specific procedures tailored for the statistical analysis of the data. Compared to SAS, COBOL is a highly structured language with rigid rules; SAS programming can be much faster than COBOL but SAS programs tend to use many more resources than COBOL programs to run. If you want to make the switch, buy one of the SAS primer books on the market and read it before going any further.
