I am working on a project of migrating cobol batch programs to Java.
I have come across a framework called Spring Batch and a few other frameworks internal to my company.

Has anyone ever done such stuff of simuating the Batch environment to Java or any such platforms?? And did u ever feel it worth doing in terms of performance of the applications???

Good luck. For most, this has been an exercise in frustration. There are few similaraties between mainframe batch and java anything. . . This is more of an environment issue rather than a cobol issue.

Migrating mainframe batch to unix scripts is not too difficult. A unix script is not one for one with jcl, but with a bit of work, the mainframe batch jobs can be converted. Mainframe cobol can convert to unix (we used MicroFocus cobol) with little re-work - it depends on how the mainframe cobol was implemented.

One big issue is moving the data from the mainframe.

Nearly never is the decision to move processes from the mainframe to some unix or win-based server based on performance. Many attempts to move large mainframe systems to win-based servers have completely failed.
