whats wrong in using "ftp get on the windoze"
or "FTP put on the mainframe"

Every tcp/ip product that i've used comes with ftp software. I suspect your management will not subsidize writing your own tcp/ip/ftp package.

If you explain what you really want to accomplish, someone may have suggestions.
