why don't you try allocating a non-spanned ds and see what comes as a default.
better yet, read the documentation and you will see that their is probably no-default value.
profiles can/will provide default values, but they are based on previous use. |

If it is a VSAM file, there may or may not be defaults in place by the storage team, depending on the SMS configuration.
Probably a site specific question that you are supposed to know the answer to. |
