hi,

Can any body plz tell me about the uses of icetool,also tell weather ice tool is utility like(iebcopy,iehproghm etc) or it is a tool like fileaid,change man etc.

ICETOOL is a utility/tool provided free with DFSORT (has been since 1991). ICETOOL includes thirteen operators that perform sort, copy, statistical, report, selection, and splice operations.

For complete information on DFSORT's ICETOOL, see Chapter 6 "Using ICETOOL" of "z/OS DFSORT Application Programming Guide".

If you're not familiar with DFSORT and DFSORT's ICETOOL, I'd suggest reading through "z/OS DFSORT: Getting Started". It's an excellent tutorial, with lots of examples, that will show you how to use DFSORT, DFSORT's ICETOOL and DFSORT Symbols.

YOUR definition of a "utility" seems to be one of IBM's IEB or IEH programs, whereas YOUR definition of a "tool" seems to be a non-IBM program. These aren't good definitions. DFSORT's ICETOOL is an IBM program, but it's NOT one of IBM's IEH or IEB programs. DFSORT's ICETOOL could be described either as a utility or a tool.
